Trump signals imminent US exit from Iran conflict

The US President, Donald Trump, reiterated his administration’s plans to bring an end to US involvement in the Iran conflict within weeks, a move that may alter the future direction of the war and its consequences for the region.
President Trump announced that the US may withdraw its troops within “two or three weeks” without an agreement with Iran, but this would depend on the success of military operations to ensure that Iran does not develop nuclear capabilities.
President Trump also claimed that US military actions have weakened Iran significantly, such that its military capabilities are no longer a threat to the US. According to Trump, Iran’s naval, air, and defense capabilities have been neutralized, and the country would take years to rebuild its military infrastructure after the war.
Although he was highly critical of Iran, Trump also claimed that the US did not seek to change the regime, and that its main objective was to destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities. The US president also claimed that talks are still possible with Iran, and that this would depend on Iran’s willingness to talk.
President Trump also announced a change in US policy regarding the strait of Hormuz, and that the task of protecting this important waterway would fall to those nations that rely on the strait for oil supplies.
The announcement that the US may withdraw its troops within weeks, however, is a concern for US allies, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, who would like to ensure that military actions are sustained to neutralize Iran’s missile and drone capabilities.
The US-Iran conflict is affecting the US economy, and fuel prices are increasing, a situation that is putting additional pressure on the US economy.
