KARACHI: Two children tragically drowned on Monday in a water-filled pit at an under-construction building site in Gulistan-e-Johar’s Block 9, near Magsi Chowk. According to police, the pit was dug for building foundations but was left uncovered. Recent rainfall had filled it with water, turning it into a hidden danger. Three children had entered the pit to swim. Sadly, two drowned, while one managed to escape and alert others.

Rescue teams arrived quickly after receiving the emergency call and launched a search operation. They successfully retrieved the bodies of the two drowned children. The deceased were between 10 and 12 years old, police confirmed. Residents expressed anger over the lack of safety measures at construction sites. Police have begun an investigation to determine responsibility and negligence.

In a separate incident, tragedy struck again at Karachi’s Hawks Bay Manora Road, where three young men drowned while swimming. Rescue divers from Edhi Foundation managed to save one individual alive. The body of another was recovered soon after. However, one person remains missing, and search efforts are ongoing.

The recovered survivor has been identified as Hasnain, while Bilal was confirmed dead. The missing person is named Shahab, all of whom reportedly belonged to Nazimabad. The incident has sparked fresh concerns over beach safety and lack of proper warning signs. Families are urging authorities to put stronger precautions in place.

These back-to-back drowning incidents have raised serious questions about public safety, especially for children and young people. Locals demand strict action against negligent builders and call for safety regulations at public swimming spots. Authorities have been urged to act swiftly to prevent further tragedies. The investigation into both cases is still ongoing.
