U.S. strikes in Venezuela

The United States carried out strikes inside Venezuela early Saturday, a U.S. official told Reuters. Loud explosions and aircraft sounds shook Caracas near a major military base. Power outages affected southern areas of the capital during the early hours.

Meanwhile, witnesses reported smoke columns, airplanes, and continuing blasts around 2:15 a.m. The exact locations remained unclear as sounds echoed across the city. The strikes followed heightened U.S. military pressure in the Caribbean region.

Earlier, President Donald Trump raised the possibility of ground strikes against Venezuela. He said Monday the United States destroyed a docking area for alleged Venezuelan drug boats. However, he did not say whether the action involved the military or the CIA.

This attack would mark the first known land strike on Venezuelan soil. President Nicolas Maduro neither confirmed nor denied the earlier strike. However, he said he remained open to cooperation after weeks of U.S. pressure.

Washington accuses Maduro of leading a drug cartel, while he strongly denies the claims. Additionally, the United States imposed sanctions, restricted airspace, and seized oil tankers. As a result, a deadly maritime campaign has killed at least 107 people, sparking legal debate.
