Woman Rescued After Harassment at Karachi Call Center

A female call center employee was allegedly harassed and illegally confined in a software house in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The victim managed to contact her family by phone while trapped inside. When her family arrived, a violent clash broke out with the software house owners. The suspects reportedly opened fire, leading to a gunfight, but no injuries occurred. Thankfully, the woman was rescued safely by her relatives.
Police arrested eight suspects, including five armed call center employees involved in the incident. Authorities recovered two rifles and three pistols from the group. Six FIRs were registered covering harassment, illegal confinement, aerial firing, rioting, and death threats. The police acted quickly after receiving a distress call and arrested the suspects on the spot. Their prompt response prevented further violence at the scene.
According to the FIR, the victim’s father said his daughter worked at the call center for three years. The branch manager, Daniyal, allegedly harassed her with inappropriate remarks and obscene behavior. When the victim informed her cousin, he confronted Daniyal, who then threatened them. On the day of the incident, Daniyal locked the woman inside the office, preventing her from leaving. The family’s attempt to intervene triggered the violent response from the call center staff.
Daniyal and his accomplices verbally abused the family and opened fire during the confrontation. Other employees, including guards named Imran and Raza, joined in the firing. Despite the chaos, no casualties were reported during the gunfire exchange. Police described the scene as tense and dangerous before restoring order. The suspects now face multiple charges linked to their violent and unlawful actions.
The incident highlights serious concerns about workplace safety and harassment in call centers. Authorities have begun legal action to hold the perpetrators accountable. Meanwhile, the government is considering stricter regulations, including mandatory licenses for call centers. This case serves as a warning to prevent such crimes in the future. Police continue to investigate and ensure justice for the victim.
