Heatwave Alert Issued as Temperatures Soar Across Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert as rising temperatures begin to grip several parts of the country, sparking concerns over public health and safety.
Starting Sunday, the PMD warned of a significant rise in daytime temperatures, particularly in southern and central regions of Pakistan. The alert remains in effect through April 18.
In South Punjab, cities including Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalnagar are expected to experience scorching conditions, with temperatures forecasted to soar up to 45°C — around 6 to 8°C above normal.
Central and northern regions, including Islamabad, parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, may also witness a 4 to 6°C temperature increase between Monday and Friday. The intense heat could lead to dust storms and gusty winds in some areas, the PMD cautioned.
In Sindh and Balochistan, the situation is even more severe. Temperatures there are predicted to rise by 6 to 8°C above average, with some cities potentially reaching an extreme 46 to 48°C.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has urged the public to stay indoors during peak hours, stay hydrated, and avoid unnecessary travel or outdoor activities during the heatwave period to prevent heatstroke and other related health issues.
