The Sindh government has decided to expand its People’s Information Technology Program (PITP). The program will offer free short IT courses to matric and intermediate pass students. The courses will run in partnership with the Department of Information Science and Technology. Three top universities—NED University Karachi, Mehran University Hyderabad, and IBA Sukkur—will conduct the training. This expansion aims to provide valuable IT skills to thousands of youth across the province.

Under the program, 35,000 students will be trained in three phases. Each phase will include 7,000 participants. The courses will last two months and are free for all students. So far, 13,000 students have completed the initial phase successfully. The second phase has a budget of Rs 1,400 million, already allocated for 2025 and 2026.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah highlighted the program’s success during a recent ceremony. He noted that thousands of students gained globally recognized IT skills. Over 4,300 graduates are now actively working in the economy. The Chief Minister expressed hope that the program would continue benefiting youth and contribute to economic growth.

At the same event, Sindh signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with tech giant Google. One MoU supports the People’s IT Program, and the other focuses on a Google Digital Journalism Scholarship. This partnership will enhance digital skills and journalism training in the province. The collaboration marks a step forward in Sindh’s digital education efforts.

Overall, the expanded People’s IT Program will empower more young people in Sindh with vital IT skills. It also strengthens ties with leading universities and international tech companies. The program’s continuation reflects Sindh’s commitment to education and technology development. It promises a brighter future for students and the local economy.
