President, PM Emphasize Children’s Rights and Education in Pakistan

On World Children’s Day 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to children’s rights and quality education. Celebrations nationwide focused on the global theme “My Day, My Rights,” emphasizing children’s welfare and participation. Both leaders stressed the importance of safeguarding children’s future and ensuring they have access to education and opportunities for development.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s collaboration with the global community to improve children’s welfare, rights, and education. He pointed out that the future of any nation depends on investing in the education and development of its children. The prime minister also mentioned ongoing government initiatives like the Danish School Project and educational scholarships aimed at supporting children’s growth.

In addition to these efforts, Sharif emphasized that providing education for all children is the government’s primary responsibility. He noted the importance of the ongoing education emergency initiative, which seeks to ensure that every child has access to school. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts between government institutions to make meaningful progress in achieving these goals.

President Asif Ali Zardari also spoke about the moral and legal duty to protect children’s rights. He called on parents, civil society, and the media to work together to safeguard the future of children. Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and highlighted the constitutional guarantees for children’s rights in Pakistan. He noted that strong laws and child protection units have been established to prevent exploitation.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of the year’s global theme, “My Day, My Rights,” which gives children a voice in decisions affecting their lives. President Zardari underscored that child welfare is a collective responsibility that requires action from both the state and society. The day’s observances reflect Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to protect children and promote their rights in every sphere of life.

The bill strictly bans the employment of boys under 14 years of age. It also limits work hours for older children to protect their health and well-being. This measure aims to balance work opportunities with the essential need for education.

Furthermore, the law prohibits children from engaging in hazardous jobs. Such restrictions will reduce risks for minors and safeguard them from dangerous working environments. Authorities have pledged to strictly enforce these new standards.
