The Punjab government has made it easier and free of cost to partition jointly owned land. The new initiative is designed to help citizens manage property ownership more efficiently. Authorities are urging people to use the service without delay. The Punjab Board of Revenue has simplified the process, making it more accessible for the public. This step aims to reduce legal and bureaucratic hurdles for landowners.
To initiate the process, citizens must complete the registration for the joint land transfer. Once registered, a mutation application must be submitted to the relevant government office. This formal procedure ensures the legal transfer of ownership from one party to another, making it an official record of property rights. This documentation is essential for resolving disputes and confirming ownership.
The Punjab government has also introduced an online system that allows citizens to initiate and track the partition process from home. This eliminates the need for frequent office visits, saving time and effort. The user-friendly online system makes the procedure straightforward and accessible, encouraging more people to take advantage of the service.
In addition to the convenience, the service ensures that the distribution of inherited property follows Islamic principles and constitutional law. When dividing an estate, all debts and bequests of the deceased are settled first. The remaining property is then distributed among eligible heirs according to their prescribed shares. This ensures that the process is fair and legal.
For example, if a deceased person leaves behind two daughters, a wife, a mother, and a brother, the estate division follows specific shares. The two daughters receive two-thirds of the estate, the wife one-eighth, the mother one-sixth, and the brother one twenty-fourth. This structured approach guarantees that all heirs receive their fair portion in accordance with Islamic law.
