President Zardari highlights stronger Pakistan-Qatar trade relations

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari expressed Pakistan’s desire to strengthen cooperation with Qatar in investment and trade. He reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations. On Qatar’s National Day, he extended warm congratulations to Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and conveyed best wishes to the Qatari people. He noted that Pakistan and Qatar share long-standing fraternal relations based on common values and mutual respect.

President Zardari praised Qatar’s remarkable development and progress under the Amir’s leadership. He highlighted Qatar’s constructive role in regional and international affairs. He emphasized that strong collaboration benefits both nations and contributes to global stability.

The president stressed Pakistan’s interest in expanding partnerships with Qatar in key sectors, including investment, trade, energy, agriculture, and technology. He said cooperation in these areas could bring mutual economic benefits and promote sustainable development. He added that manpower cooperation and people-to-people contacts form the backbone of Pakistan–Qatar relations.

Reiterating his commitment to strengthen bilateral friendship, President Zardari expressed optimism about the future of Pakistan–Qatar ties. He said both countries could achieve greater economic growth through strategic collaboration and mutual understanding.

Meanwhile, on World Farmers’ Day, President Zardari paid tribute to Pakistani farmers, calling them the backbone of the national economy, food security, and rural development. He acknowledged challenges such as water scarcity, climate change, and rising input costs. He stressed the importance of implementing concrete measures to improve farmers’ welfare and support sustainable agriculture in the country.

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, in Islamabad. The Qatari minister is in Pakistan to co-chair the sixth session of the Pakistan-Qatar Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC).

During the meeting, the Prime Minister described Pakistan-Qatar relations as brotherly, positive, and based on mutual respect, emphasizing the need to enhance cooperation in energy, agriculture, information technology, tourism, and infrastructure development.
