Voting is underway in Bangladesh today for the national elections and a referendum. Millions of citizens are participating in this significant political event. More than 12.7 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes across the country, making this a major exercise in Bangladesh’s democratic process. Around 50 political parties are competing in the elections, with candidates contesting for 300 parliamentary seats. Major parties include the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the National Citizens Party, and the Jatiya Party. To form a government, a party or coalition needs a majority of 151 seats out of 300.
Polling is open in 299 constituencies from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The Bangladesh military has been deployed across the country to maintain security. The Chief Election Commissioner stated that all measures have been taken to ensure that the voting process is free, fair, and transparent.

According to a recent public survey, the election is expected to be closely contested. The BNP-led alliance is projected to secure around 44.1% of the votes, while the Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance of 11 parties may get approximately 43.9%.
