Big increase in mobile phone imports in Pakistan

Mobile phone imports in Pakistan have witnessed a significant surge, crossing Rs. 406.38 billion during the first nine months of the current fiscal year.

According to the latest data released by the Bureau of Statistics, mobile phone imports increased by 29.15% on a year-on-year basis, reflecting the rising demand for smartphones across the country.

The data shows that from July 2025 to March 2026, total imports reached over Rs. 406 billion, compared to Rs. 314.65 billion during the same period last year.

In March 2026, mobile phone imports recorded a 14.28% increase on an annual basis. However, on a month-to-month basis, imports declined by 4.26%.

Further details reveal that Pakistan imported mobile phones worth Rs. 41.70 billion in March 2026, compared to Rs. 36.49 billion in March 2025.

Meanwhile, imports in February 2026 stood at Rs. 43.56 billion, indicating a slight drop in March figures.

Experts believe the increase highlights growing consumer demand and rapid adoption of modern technology, but it may also put additional pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
