After remaining sealed for nearly two weeks due to heightened security arrangements linked to Iran-US peace efforts, the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have fully reopened, restoring normal life and daily activities.

The 12-day lockdown had disrupted transportation, businesses, and routine life across key areas. However, with restrictions lifted, transport services resumed, markets reopened, and commercial activity quickly picked up, particularly in wholesale sectors.

Residents living near Noor Khan Chaklala Airbase, including areas such as Khanna Road, Shakrial, and Islamabad Expressway, have been allowed to return to normal routines, including reopening windows and accessing rooftops.

Hotels, restaurants, marriage halls, and marquees have resumed operations, with bookings for weddings and events restarting. Transport terminals are now fully functional, enabling travel within and outside the cities.

On Sunday, major markets along Murree Road and Rawal Road — including electronics and jewellery markets — reopened for the first time since the restrictions were imposed. Daily wage workers also returned to their jobs, bringing relief after days of financial strain.

The restoration of goods transport has allowed essential supplies such as pulses, sugar, and other commodities from Faisalabad and Sargodha to reach wholesale markets.

Public transport, including the Metro Bus service, resumed operations and witnessed a heavy rush on its first day. Educational institutions also reopened as online classes came to an end.

Despite relief over the reopening, traders and residents criticised the government for the prolonged closure, stating that businesses suffered significant losses without receiving any financial support or relief measures.
