Two suspects killed during police custody operation in Gujranwala double murder case

Two suspects in a high-profile double murder case were killed in what police described as an exchange of fire in the Gujranwala area of Garjakh, after an attempt was made to recover a weapon from their custody. The suspects were allegedly involved in the killing of a woman and her three-year-old daughter.
According to police officials, the accused were being taken for the recovery of the weapon used in the crime when armed accomplices tried to intercept the convoy. During the ensuing chaos, firing broke out, and both detained suspects were killed by gunfire from their own associates, police said. The men were on physical remand at the time.
Investigators stated that during interrogation, one of the suspects had confessed that the woman was murdered at the behest of her husband. He also alleged that the victim was subjected to assault before the killing. According to his statement, the woman initially resisted but later expressed resignation, allegedly saying she did not want to live.

Another suspect reportedly told police that the victim’s husband orchestrated the murder to facilitate a second marriage. He further claimed that the contract killing was carried out for 150,000 rupees to settle gambling-related debts.
Police said the suspects also admitted that the victim’s three-year-old daughter was killed during the incident to eliminate identification and potential witnesses.
Authorities have not yet independently verified these confessions and said a full investigation is underway. The case has drawn significant public attention due to its brutality and the conflicting claims surrounding the motive.
Officials added that forensic evidence and further legal proceedings will determine the final course of action, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals allegedly involved in the case.
