Report reveals over 800 missing women cases in Lahore

A recent police report has revealed alarming figures regarding missing women cases in Lahore, showing that 824 women abducted over the past five years remain untraced despite registered cases and ongoing investigations.
According to official police records, these women went missing between 2021 and 2025 from different parts of the city. Despite formal First Information Reports (FIRs) being lodged in each case, authorities have not been able to locate the victims or determine their whereabouts.
The data highlights significant disparities across various police divisions. The highest number of unresolved cases has been reported from the Cantonment Division, where 282 women are still missing. This is followed by 152 cases in the Saddar Division and 124 in the City Division.
In addition, 110 women from the Model Town Division and 100 from the Iqbal Town Division have also not been recovered. The report further states that 56 women missing from the Civil Lines Division remain untraced.
Officials confirmed that all cases were formally registered and investigations were initiated, but no substantial breakthroughs have been achieved so far. The continued lack of progress has raised concerns over investigative effectiveness and the overall handling of missing persons cases.
The report underscores the broader challenge faced by law enforcement agencies in dealing with abduction and missing persons cases, particularly involving women. It also highlights the need for improved coordination, modern investigative techniques, and stronger monitoring mechanisms to ensure timely recovery.
Human rights observers have often stressed the importance of strengthening police response systems and improving data tracking in such cases. The latest figures are expected to trigger renewed scrutiny of investigative procedures and missing persons protocols in the provincial capital.
Authorities have not yet issued a detailed response on measures being taken to address the backlog or improve recovery rates in these cases.
