Political parties Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Jamaat-e-Islami have entered into an electoral alliance in two constituencies ahead of the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan elections.

According to party leaders, Jamaat-e-Islami candidates have withdrawn from Astore Constituency 2 and Gilgit Constituency 2 in support of PML-N candidates as part of the agreement between the two parties.

PML-N Gilgit-Baltistan President Hafiz Hafeez ur Rehman said the alliance was formed after consultations with the central leadership of both parties. He thanked Jamaat-e-Islami for supporting the decision and described the cooperation as a positive step for the elections.

Former Jamaat-e-Islami Gilgit-Baltistan chief Maulana Abdul Sami said the alliance was influenced by the performance of the PML-N government in the region during its previous tenure in 2015. He confirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami candidates had formally withdrawn in favor of PML-N nominees.

The development comes as political parties intensify campaigning and alliance-building efforts ahead of the Gilgit-Baltistan polls. Analysts believe such seat adjustments and alliances could play a significant role in shaping the electoral landscape, particularly in closely contested constituencies.

Gilgit-Baltistan elections have gained increased attention in recent years due to the region’s strategic importance and growing political participation. Political observers say alliances between religious and mainstream political parties may influence voter turnout and constituency-level dynamics.

The elections are expected to witness strong competition among major national and regional parties, with issues such as development, governance, infrastructure, and constitutional rights likely to dominate campaign discussions.
