Super Ship Found

Archaeologists have uncovered the largest known medieval cargo ship to date, offering valuable insights into trade and maritime activity in Northern Europe during the Middle Ages.

The vessel, named Svelget 2, was discovered in a canal in Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen. It measures approximately 28 meters in length, 9 meters in width, and 6 meters in height.

Researchers believe the ship was constructed around 1410 AD and had the capacity to carry up to 300 tons of cargo, making it the largest cargo vessel of its kind from the medieval period.

Experts say the ship’s size and design reflect significant advancements in maritime engineering and demonstrate the growing scale of sea-based trade during that era.

Otto Uldum, a maritime archaeologist at the Viking Ship Museum who led the excavation, described the discovery as a milestone in maritime archaeology.

According to him, the ship was purpose-built to efficiently transport large quantities of everyday goods, highlighting the economic importance of maritime trade in medieval Europe.

Researchers believe this remarkable find will contribute to a deeper understanding of medieval shipbuilding, trade networks, and economic life in Northern Europe.
