PTI leaders interim bail

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Friday extended interim bail for PTI leaders Azam Swati, Jamshed Cheema, and Musarrat Cheema. The bail extension is related to cases stemming from the May 9 incidents. The court set the next hearing for April 3.

The hearing was conducted by ATC Judge Arshad Javed. The accused and other defendants appeared before the court. Lawyers from both the prosecution and defence were also present during the proceedings.

During the session, the duty judge directed the prosecution to submit complete records of all cases against the accused. This is intended to ensure proper examination before the next hearing. The submission will help the court review the evidence thoroughly.

The court also instructed the defence lawyers to prepare and present their arguments in the upcoming hearing. Lawyers are expected to highlight procedural and legal points on behalf of the accused. This step ensures both sides have an opportunity to present their case.

The cases involve multiple incidents, including the burning of Askari Tower. Other related events from May 9 are also included. Authorities allege the accused played significant roles in the unrest.

The ATC emphasized that the proceedings must follow due process. The court maintained that both prosecution and defence must provide full documentation and evidence. This ensures a fair trial for all involved parties.

The extension of interim bail allows the accused to remain out of custody until April 3. The court will reconvene on that date to continue hearing arguments and reviewing evidence. The decision reflects the judicial process and the complexity of the May 9 cases.
