A 76-year-old British broadcast engineer working for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Mumbai hotel. The discovery has shocked colleagues and raised questions about the cause of his sudden death.

Police said John William Lingford was found unconscious in his hotel room on Tuesday. Hotel staff immediately took him to a Mumbai hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Authorities confirmed he had been working closely with the BCCI on IPL match coverage.

Lingford had been staying at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai since March 24. He had attended the Mumbai Indians vs. Kolkata Knight Riders match on Sunday and returned to his room afterward. Staff tried contacting him later but received no response.

When hotel personnel knocked on his door and received no reply, they used the master key to enter. Lingford was found lying on the floor. Mumbai police noted that the postmortem report did not indicate anything suspicious, but a case of unnatural death was registered.

Investigations are ongoing into the British broadcast engineer’s mysterious death in Mumbai. Authorities continue to examine all circumstances surrounding his passing while colleagues in the IPL community mourn the unexpected loss of Lingford.
