Federal Budget 2025: 18% sales tax imposed on vehicles and online shopping

Islamabad: In the 2025 federal budget, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced an 18% General Sales Tax (GST) on all vehicles, including those currently taxed at lower rates, to ensure fair competition within the auto industry.
The minister also proposed an 18% GST on imported solar panels, aiming to boost local manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports.
Additionally, all online purchases made through e-commerce platforms will now be subject to 18% GST, bringing the digital economy more fully into the tax net.
