Film Industry Power Shift: A.R. Rahman Speaks Out

Oscar-winning composer and singer A.R. Rahman has stirred controversy with his recent comments about the Bollywood industry. According to him, A.R. Rahman says power balance in film industry has shifted, with non-creative individuals increasingly making key decisions, a situation he believes may also be influenced by communal tendencies.
In a recent interview with BBC Asian Network, Rahman expressed concern over the changes in the industry over the past eight years. He highlighted that the creative voices, which once guided the film industry, now have less influence compared to decision-makers who may lack artistic vision.
Following his remarks, Rahman faced criticism from several quarters. Some industry professionals accused him of making unverified claims, while others supported his observations, acknowledging the challenges that creativity now faces in Bollywood.

Later, Rahman shared a clarification video, saying his comments were misunderstood. He emphasized that he never intended to hurt anyone and that his purpose was to express his concern for the state of the industry, not to attack individuals personally.
He added that India has always valued freedom of expression and diverse cultural voices. Despite the criticism, A.R. Rahman says power balance in film industry has shifted, underscoring the ongoing debate about creativity and leadership in Bollywood.
