Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) former MPA Junaid Afzal Sahi, convicted in the May 9 violence cases, has surrendered himself to police following court orders.

According to details, Junaid Afzal Sahi appeared before the Lahore High Court to seek bail; however, the court instructed him to surrender at the relevant police station.

Complying with the order, the former lawmaker presented himself at the Civil Lines Police Station, where he was taken into custody.

Sahi had earlier been sentenced to three years in prison in connection with the May 9 riots. He was elected from constituency PP-98 during the last provincial elections.

Following his conviction, the seat has been declared vacant, and by-elections in PP-98 are scheduled to be held on November 23.

Observers note that his surrender marks another significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings related to the May 9 incidents, which followed the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.
