Imaan Mazari, Husband Hadi Ali Chhatha Arrested

ISLAMABAD – Human rights activist and lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chhatha were arrested on Friday.

They were stopped near Serena Chowk while traveling from the Islamabad High Court to the District Court. Many lawyers were accompanying them.

Imaan and Hadi have been involved in a controversial tweets case. They said they would not back down from their stance.

Speaking to the media, they affirmed their position, saying they would stand firm even if it meant going to jail.

Earlier, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court had ordered Imaan and Hadi to appear in person in the case.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had earlier nullified the trial court’s order that had protected Imaan and Hadi from arrest.

The IHC granted four days for cross-examining witnesses and warned that failing to appear in court would void the order.
