Iran football team objects to US travel restriction before World Cup match

Iran’s football federation has raised concerns after its national team was denied permission to travel to the United States two days before a scheduled FIFA World Cup fixture, saying the decision could negatively affect the team’s preparations for the tournament.
According to officials from the federation, the team had requested approval to arrive in Los Angeles 48 hours before its match against Belgium, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday. Federation representatives stated that the request was submitted in advance as part of the team’s planned training and logistical arrangements. However, the request was reportedly rejected by tournament organizers.
A spokesperson for the Iranian football federation said the team had already provided its preparation schedule and technical reasons supporting the request. The federation believes that the travel restrictions are creating additional challenges for players and coaching staff during a crucial stage of the competition.

The federation also announced that it intends to submit a formal complaint to FIFA regarding the matter. Officials argue that restrictions affecting travel and scheduling could impact competitive fairness and the team’s ability to prepare adequately for matches.
Meanwhile, White House FIFA Task Force Executive Director Andrew Giuliani said Iran had previously been informed of the travel arrangements. According to him, the team would be allowed to enter the United States only one day before each match and would be required to leave on the same evening after the game.
The issue has attracted attention because Iran’s upcoming World Cup matches against Belgium and Egypt are both scheduled to be played in the United States. As a result, the team may need to follow the same travel procedure for multiple fixtures during the tournament.
The situation highlights the logistical and diplomatic challenges that can arise during major international sporting events. FIFA has not yet publicly commented on the federation’s planned complaint, and it remains unclear whether any changes to the travel arrangements will be considered before the upcoming matches.
