Drone Strike in South Lebanon Kills Hezbollah Commander Abbas Hassan Karki

Beirut: The Israeli military has violated the ceasefire agreement by carrying out a drone strike in southern Lebanon, killing Hezbollah’s logistics commander Abbas Hassan Karki, according to reports.

The AFP, citing Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), reported that Karki was targeted while driving his car on a road near the village of Toul, close to Nabatieh.

He was reportedly hit by a guided missile fired from an Israeli drone, completely destroying his vehicle.

In a statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed targeting Hezbollah’s Southern Front logistics commander, claiming it was a “precision strike.”

This latest strike marks yet another breach of the November 2024 ceasefire agreement, which was aimed at ending more than a year of cross-border clashes between Israel and Hezbollah.

Under the ceasefire terms, Israel was to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah was required to relocate north of the Litani River and dismantle its southern military posts.

However, amid U.S. pressure and fears of renewed Israeli escalation, the Lebanese government had initiated a plan to disarm Hezbollah, a move strongly opposed by Hezbollah and its allies.

During a recent meeting with U.S. General Joseph Clearfield, head of the ceasefire monitoring committee, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Salam reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to completing the disarmament process south of the Litani River by the end of the year.

He urged Israel to honor its commitments, withdraw from occupied Lebanese territories, and halt ongoing attacks to ensure lasting peace in the region.
