Peshawar BRT crackdown

PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to take strict action against vehicles illegally operating on BRT routes. Officials said the crackdown targets rickshaws and taxis disrupting the flow of buses. Authorities emphasized that the move aims to ensure smooth and safe travel for commuters across the city.

According to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), the operation will begin today and continue for one week. The enforcement drive will be carried out in phases to cover all affected BRT corridors. Officials said they will closely monitor compliance and take immediate action against violators.

Authorities explained that illegally operating vehicles often create traffic bottlenecks and interrupt the movement of BRT buses. The campaign also aims to enhance road safety for both commuters and pedestrians. Officials hope the operation will improve overall mobility and reduce travel delays in Peshawar.

The RTA stated that any vehicle found violating traffic rules or using designated BRT lanes unlawfully will face strict penalties. Enforcement measures include fines, towing, and possible legal action under provincial transport laws. Officials stressed that no exceptions will be made for repeat offenders.

The provincial government has urged transporters and drivers to comply with traffic and transport regulations to avoid penalties. Citizens are also advised to cooperate with authorities during the operation. Authorities believe that public support will help achieve safer roads and uninterrupted BRT service for everyone.
