The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has undergone a major transformation in recent years, evolving from a force operating under numerical limitations into a modern, capability-driven air and space power that plays a key role in shaping South Asia’s strategic environment.

This transformation was prominently demonstrated during “Marka-e-Haq,” described as a defining moment in Pakistan’s defence history. According to the narrative, the PAF response during a high-pressure situation showcased precision, restraint, and operational maturity against a numerically superior adversary.

Under the leadership of Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, the PAF has shifted from a platform-centric model to an integrated system combining fighters, air defence systems, electronic warfare, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, cyber capabilities, and space-enabled assets into a unified operational structure.

Officials and analysts describe this shift as a move towards “next-generation airpower,” where success is driven not only by aircraft but by networked systems, data links, and real-time situational awareness. The doctrine of “first look, first shot, first kill” has reportedly become a practical operational reality rather than a theoretical concept.

During Marka-e-Haq, coordinated air operations involving beyond visual range engagements and multi-axis tactics reportedly demonstrated the effectiveness of this integrated approach. The event also highlighted the importance of training, planning, and technological integration in modern warfare.

A key feature of the response, as highlighted in the account, was restraint. Despite operational advantage, the force reportedly opted for measured action, reflecting a doctrine that emphasizes proportional response and strategic stability.

The transformation has also been supported by initiatives linking defence, academia, and industry, including aerospace innovation programs aimed at strengthening indigenous capability development.

Marka-e-Haq is now being viewed as a milestone that reflects both technological progress and doctrinal evolution within the PAF, reinforcing its emphasis on professionalism, preparedness, and controlled application of force.
