Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the balloting process for 720 newly constructed flats for industrial workers on Tuesday. The ceremony marked a significant step in the government’s housing initiative. Maryam Nawaz pressed a button to officially begin the allocation, congratulating the successful applicants. These flats will provide homes for workers who had been living without permanent housing.
The chief minister announced that additional housing would be provided in the future. Another 1,872 flats for industrial workers are set to be completed within the next 18 months. She also directed that flats be allocated separately for widows and people with disabilities, exempting them from the lottery system. This will ensure that they receive priority in the housing scheme.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized accessibility for workers with special needs. She instructed officials to ensure that these workers are provided flats on the ground floor for safety and ease of access. During the ceremony, the chief minister personally congratulated Nadeem Tahir, an industrial worker who won a flat, and praised the role of his parents in his success.
In addition to the flats, the chief minister announced plans for a 700-bed bachelor hostel in Sheikhupura. The hostel, which is part of the Quaid-e-Azam Business Park, will cater to unmarried workers in nearby industrial zones. The project is expected to be completed within three months, providing affordable housing options for workers in the region.
The housing initiative extends across Punjab, with plans for flats in Sundar Phase-II, Multan, and Warburton. Additionally, 2,000 workers in Jhang and Kamalia will receive free residential plots in newly developed labor colonies. This initiative aims to provide industrial workers with affordable and accessible housing options, improving their living conditions.
