Maryam Nawaz Launches Flood Program

OKARA,  Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially started a major flood rehabilitation program by distributing ‘Flood Cards’ to affected families in Okara.

At a ceremony in Depalpur, Maryam Nawaz emphasized her commitment to fulfilling the promises made to flood victims, saying, “Nawaz Sharif’s daughter has come to fulfill her promise.”

Describing the recent floods as the worst in Punjab’s history, the Chief Minister assured that rehabilitation efforts are now underway in full force. “I will not rest until the last affected person returns home,” she stated.

Maryam Nawaz stressed that funds allocated by the Punjab government are public money and will be used solely for the welfare of those affected. She described the relief efforts not as charity but as a rightful repayment to the people, promising transparency and zero tolerance for corruption.

The Chief Minister also promised equal treatment for all flood victims, with no discrimination based on location or status. She noted that about 70% of the flood damage survey has been completed, and compensation payments have already begun even before the survey concludes.

To assist families missing from relief lists, around 72 complaint centers have been established. Each eligible family will receive an initial Rs50,000 through cheques and ATM cards, with the remaining compensation accessible via ATMs. So far, more than 71,000 bank accounts have been opened for flood-affected families across Punjab.
