Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that no new canal projects will be initiated without mutual consent from all stakeholders.

Speaking at a joint press conference with PPP Chair Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Prime Minister said that a detailed discussion took place with the PPP delegation regarding the canal issue. He emphasized that disputes between the federation and provinces should be resolved through dialogue and consensus.

“The federation is paramount,” the Prime Minister stated, adding that just as provinces, especially Sindh, had expressed concerns over the Kalabagh Dam, similar projects like canals must also be addressed with mutual agreement.

He reiterated that no further progress on the canal issue will be made unless there is consensus among the provinces.

Additionally, the Prime Minister announced that a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) has been scheduled for Friday, May 2, where federal decisions will be endorsed.
