Pakistan, Egypt agree to boost security cooperation and counter-terrorism ties

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday met a high-level delegation from Egypt’s interior ministry to discuss enhanced cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, narcotics control, cybercrime, and safe city initiatives, according to a statement issued by the interior ministry.
Both sides agreed to strengthen institutional collaboration between the interior ministries of Pakistan and Egypt, with a focus on training, intelligence sharing, and operational coordination. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including representatives from Egypt’s security establishment led by Major General Magdy Helal.
The discussions also included plans to deepen cooperation between the National Police Academy of Pakistan and Egypt’s police academy. Officials said this would facilitate joint training programmes for officers and help improve professional capacity in modern policing techniques.

Mohsin Naqvi welcomed the Egyptian delegation and said that the visit would help identify new areas of bilateral cooperation. He added that Pakistan would soon send a delegation to Egypt to further explore opportunities in sectors of mutual interest, particularly in law enforcement and internal security.
The Egyptian delegation included senior officers such as Brigadier Essam Abu Al-Khair, Brigadier Engineer Mohamed Rady, and Brigadier Dr Mohamed Mounir. They appreciated their engagements in Pakistan, noting that visits to institutions such as the Anti-Narcotics Force and the National Police Academy were highly productive.
Both sides highlighted that exchanging expertise in counter-narcotics operations, counter-terrorism strategies, and cybercrime prevention could significantly strengthen their respective security frameworks. Officials also pointed out that evolving security challenges require closer international cooperation and shared learning.
State Minister for Interior Tallal Chaudhry also attended the meeting and said there were vast opportunities for collaboration between the two countries in internal security and law enforcement.
The meeting comes shortly after Pakistan and Egypt conducted a joint counter-terrorism exercise titled “Thunder-II,” reflecting growing defence and security ties between the two countries.
