Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with three young heroes from Ghizer district, Gilgit-Baltistan — Wasit Khan, Ansar, and Muhammad Khan — who saved over 300 lives by alerting their village in time about an imminent glacial lake outburst (GLOF).
The three shepherds noticed early signs of a glacier bursting while tending their goats in the mountains. They immediately warned locals, allowing authorities to evacuate three villages and prevent a major disaster.
Praising their bravery, the Prime Minister called them “heroes of 240 million Pakistanis” and announced a cash reward of Rs. 2.5 million each, along with commendation certificates.
He also vowed to visit Gilgit-Baltistan soon and announced plans to develop the affected village into a model community.
“People like you are the real saviours of this nation,” the Prime Minister said.
