Punjab CM Announces Ramadan 2026 Aid for Four Million Families

LAHORE: The Punjab government announced financial assistance for over 4 million families during the holy month of Ramadan. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that Ramadan is a month of mercy, compassion, and respect worldwide. She highlighted that prices of essential items often rise in Pakistan during the holy month. Unlike other countries, special discount counters are usually not available in Pakistan. The government aims to ensure affordability and support for low-income families across the province.
Maryam Nawaz shared details of the “Ramadan Nigahban 2026” initiative. Families will receive Nigahban Cards allowing purchases of up to Rs10,000 worth of ration. So far, 400,000 cards have been distributed, with the remaining cards delivered to doorsteps. The cards do not require activation and can be used at over 9,200 ATMs province-wide. This step ensures quick and accessible support for all eligible families.
The chief minister urged all stakeholders, including commissioners, DCs, the Price Control Department, and Clean Punjab, to ensure affordable prices. She warned retailers against overcharging and urged citizens to report violations to Punjab Police. Strict action will be taken against hoarding and profiteering during Ramadan. The Para Force will monitor price control operations throughout the month. Authorities aim to protect citizens and maintain transparency in distribution.

The initiative also extends to the Christian community, ensuring they receive the same financial support during Ramadan. Government-subsidized Ramzan Sahulat Bazaars will provide affordable food and essentials for people with limited means. These bazaars will operate throughout the province, helping families manage rising costs. The effort demonstrates the government’s commitment to equitable support for all communities.
Additionally, the chief minister encouraged philanthropists to organize Iftar and Sehar meals. Over 300 Iftar gatherings will be set up in 147 districts of Punjab. The government will issue certificates to recognize contributors for their charitable work. This initiative highlights community cooperation alongside government support. It aims to foster a spirit of generosity, compassion, and social solidarity during Ramadan.
