Russia urges U.S. to return to talks

Sergei Lavrov has called on the United States to abandon the “language of ultimatums” and return to negotiations, as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East.
During a telephone conversation with Abbas Araghchi, Lavrov emphasised that diplomatic engagement remains the only viable path to resolving ongoing conflicts. He warned that threats and unilateral pressure could further destabilise an already fragile regional situation.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, both leaders discussed the evolving geopolitical environment and expressed hope that international efforts aimed at de-escalation would yield positive results. They highlighted the importance of constructive dialogue and mutual respect in addressing complex security challenges.
Lavrov stressed that continuing with aggressive rhetoric could undermine political and diplomatic initiatives currently underway. He urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and avoid actions that might escalate tensions further.
Araghchi, on his part, agreed on the need for diplomatic solutions and reiterated Iran’s position that regional stability can only be achieved through cooperation and dialogue rather than confrontation.
The conversation comes at a time of heightened global concern over ongoing conflicts and their broader implications for international peace and security. Analysts note that Russia’s position reflects its broader diplomatic approach, which emphasises negotiation and multilateral engagement over coercive measures.
Both sides concluded that maintaining open communication channels and supporting peaceful resolutions is essential to preventing further escalation and ensuring long-term stability in the region.
