The Sindh Cabinet has approved the abolition of the death certificate fee across the province. Citizens can now obtain death certificates free of charge at municipal, union council, and town committee levels. This decision follows the earlier removal of the birth registration fee in September 2024. The government aims to make vital records more accessible and support the digital registration system.

The initiative is part of Sindh’s collaboration with the United Nations and other global partners. Together, they work to strengthen the civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) system. Under the new policy, the Sindh government will cover NADRA’s service charges. This ensures citizens do not pay for death certificates.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the move will ease public access to important documents. He stressed that it will modernize the provincial registration system. The decision was supported by the Law and Finance Departments and approved by the Chief Secretary and Cabinet. Shah added the goal is to simplify life for citizens.

Earlier in April 2024, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had abolished NADRA’s death certificate fee nationwide. During his visit to NADRA headquarters, he instructed authorities to expand NADRA offices across the country. He also emphasized securing citizens’ data and praised NADRA Chairman Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar’s work.

As part of the visit, Naqvi planted saplings in a NADRA plantation campaign. The Sindh government’s latest step aligns with these national efforts. By removing fees, officials hope to promote civil registration and ease public service access for all citizens.
