Wife of Tamil actor Vijay, Sangeeta Sornalingam, has filed for divorce after 28 years of marriage. The news has drawn wide attention as the couple had been together for nearly three decades. In the petition, she officially submitted a divorce case after 28 years of marriage, marking a major development in the personal life of the popular actor and political leader.
According to Indian media reports, Sangeeta filed the divorce petition in a local court. She stated that their marriage was first registered on July 10, 1998, in the United Kingdom. Later, a formal wedding ceremony was held on August 25, 1999, in Chennai according to Hindu traditions.
In her petition, the 48-year-old said that the early years of their marriage were happy and peaceful. She explained that they shared understanding and mutual respect during the initial phase of their relationship. However, the situation reportedly changed in recent years.

She claimed that in April 2021, she came to know about Vijay’s alleged extramarital relationship with an actress. According to her statement, this caused deep emotional pain and mental distress. She described it as a breach of trust and a serious violation of marital commitment.
Despite assurances from Vijay that the relationship would end, she stated that it allegedly continued. Because of these reasons, she decided to move forward with a divorce case after 28 years of marriage, bringing their long relationship to a legal turning point.
