six-lane motorway

The Executive Committee of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has approved the construction of the M-12 (Sialkot-Kharian) and M-13 (Kharian-Rawalpindi) motorways as six-lane roads from the start.

The decision came after discussions with the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO).

Instead of expanding the motorways later at a higher cost, they will now be built with six lanes immediately. This smart move will save around Rs 11 billion, as traffic studies had predicted that adding extra lanes by 2027 would have cost Rs 20.7 billion.
