PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar has strongly criticized NEPRA’s new net billing announcement, calling it a “bomb” for the public. He highlighted that while NEPRA plans to buy electricity at 11 rupees per unit, the government will sell it back to the public at 40 rupees per unit, raising concerns about fairness. Zafar stressed that this policy is a clear example of Ali Zafar NEPRA net billing criticism and could financially hurt citizens who invested in solar panels.

He explained that citizens were promised benefits if they installed solar panels, and many took loans to invest in panels costing millions of rupees. He questioned why the government is not honoring these commitments, which undermines public trust in energy policies.

Zafar also criticized the federal government’s response, noting that officials claimed they cannot interfere and that NEPRA is an independent body. He argued that the government should take responsibility if such policies harm the public and should not pass the blame to NEPRA.

He added that NEPRA is not truly independent, as it follows government directives. Zafar also pointed out that Independent Power Producers (IPPs) are being paid even if they do not generate electricity, which adds to the burden on ordinary citizens.

Senator Zafar concluded by urging that NEPRA’s chairman be called to the Senate to explain the decision. He warned that the policy is a “public bomb,” and emphasized that Ali Zafar NEPRA net billing criticism highlights the urgent need for government accountability and fair electricity pricing for citizens.
