Muhammad Aurangzeb, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, held a virtual meeting with representatives of the electric fan industry to discuss challenges, export potential and policy support.

The meeting included members from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Pakistan Electric Fan Manufacturers Association (PEFMA). The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continued engagement with industrial sectors to better understand their needs and support growth.

Industry representatives highlighted that the fan manufacturing sector is entirely locally based, with around 300 units operating in Gujrat and Gujranwala. The sector provides employment to about 40,000 people directly and over 150,000 indirectly, while also contributing significantly to value-added exports, particularly to the Middle East and Africa.

Discussions also focused on the transition to energy-efficient DC fan technology. Industry leaders noted their capacity to shift production from traditional fans to DC models, which could significantly reduce electricity consumption. The finance minister acknowledged that while a policy framework exists, better awareness and coordination with financial institutions are needed for effective implementation.

Access to financing for expanding production capacity was another key topic. The government indicated it would review existing financial systems to better align them with industry requirements.

Participants also raised concerns about the availability and export of raw materials such as copper and aluminium, noting that excessive export of these materials in raw form is affecting local value-added manufacturing. A balanced policy approach was suggested.

The meeting also covered issues related to SME liquidity, tax refunds, export facilitation and input tariffs. The minister emphasised that ongoing reforms aim to reduce costs and improve the business environment.
