The federal government of Pakistan has decided to implement key measures aimed at improving gas distribution across the country amid ongoing supply challenges.

According to official sources, a proposal has been put forward to temporarily suspend new RLNG (Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas) connections. The recommendation was made by the National Coordination and Management Council (NCMC), which was formed on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The council has formally communicated its recommendations to the Petroleum Division, suggesting that new RLNG connections remain on hold until gas supply conditions improve. The move is part of broader efforts to ensure a more balanced and efficient distribution of available resources.

In addition, authorities have called for the development of a comprehensive strategy to better manage the demand and supply of natural gas. Weekly progress reports on enhancing gas availability have also been sought to closely monitor the situation.

Officials are also considering regulating gas consumption through revised load-shedding schedules. Measures such as reducing Unaccounted for Gas (UFG) losses and controlling seasonal consumption are under discussion to improve efficiency in the system.

Furthermore, the government is exploring ways to promote the use of locally produced natural gas as a cost-effective alternative to expensive RLNG imports. In this regard, consultations with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) are expected.

The executive committee of the NCMC has scheduled a detailed briefing from the Petroleum Division on April 27 to review progress and finalise further اقدامات. These steps reflect the government’s commitment to addressing energy challenges and ensuring equitable gas distribution nationwide.
