SSGC halts gas supply to industries in Sindh

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a 24-hour suspension of gas supply to the industrial sector across Sindh due to a shortfall in the system, in a move aimed at stabilising pressure and ensuring fair distribution.
According to a statement issued by SSGC spokesperson Salman Siddiqui, the decision was taken as part of efforts to manage limited gas availability while maintaining supply to priority consumers. He emphasised that the company remains committed to improving gas pressure and balancing demand across different sectors.
Under the schedule, gas supply to all industrial consumers, including captive power plants, will remain suspended from 8:00am on Sunday, April 12, 2026, to 8:00am on Monday, April 13. The temporary shutdown is intended to improve line pack — a technical measure used to stabilise gas pressure within pipelines.
Officials explained that the suspension is necessary to ensure equitable distribution of gas, particularly during periods of increased demand and constrained supply. By temporarily halting supply to industries, the company aims to prioritise domestic consumers and essential services, ensuring uninterrupted availability for households and critical sectors.
SSGC has been implementing scheduled gas load shedding in various parts of Pakistan as part of its broader load management strategy. These measures are designed to address ongoing shortages while minimising disruption as much as possible.
The company reiterated that such steps are taken with careful planning to maintain system stability and prevent severe pressure drops that could affect a wider segment of consumers. Authorities added that managing supply efficiently is essential, especially during peak usage periods when demand tends to rise significantly.
The announcement highlights the continuing challenges in balancing gas supply and demand, particularly in industrial hubs that rely heavily on uninterrupted energy for operations.
