Israel has claimed that it carried out an airstrike in Gaza Strip targeting senior Hamas military commander Izz al-Din al-Haddad. According to Israeli officials, he was among the most wanted individuals for his alleged role in major attacks against Israel. Moreover, they said he played a key role in planning the October 7, 2023 assault.

Israeli authorities stated that al-Haddad is considered one of the top leaders of Hamas’s armed wing. They also alleged that he was involved in the killing and kidnapping of Israeli citizens and soldiers. In addition, they claimed he had operational control over several military activities in Gaza.

Arab media reported that Hamas has not yet issued any official response regarding Israel’s claim. Consequently, there is no independent confirmation from the group about the alleged strike or its outcome at this stage.

Israeli media quoted a senior security official who said preliminary reports suggest al-Haddad may have been successfully targeted in a recent airstrike in Gaza City. However, the Israeli military has not yet officially confirmed the result of the operation. Therefore, the situation remains unclear.

In a joint statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz said they had instructed the military to target al-Haddad. They further accused him of being responsible for thousands of deaths, kidnappings, and attacks on Israelis. Moreover, they claimed he led operations against Israeli forces and held hostages.

The statement added that Israel would continue its operations against its enemies and that those responsible for attacks would eventually be reached. In conclusion, Israel Claims Strike Targeting Hamas Senior Commander Izz al-Din al-Haddad highlights ongoing escalation and uncertainty in the already volatile Gaza conflict.
