US Ambassador Charles Kushner

The French government has banned US ambassador Charles Kushner from meeting its officials. The decision follows his failure to appear at the Foreign Affairs ministry on Monday. He had been summoned over comments about the killing of a French far-right activist last week. Diplomatic sources said the ban limits his direct access to government members. Officials stressed that ambassadors must respect France’s national public debate and diplomatic expectations.

The incident stems from the death of French far-right activist Quentin Deranque. He was beaten during a fight with alleged hard-left activists. The killing shocked France and has been compared to the shooting of US conservative activist Charlie Kirk last year. French authorities are investigating the case, while concerns over political violence continue to rise.

The US Embassy in France and the State Department’s Bureau of Counterterrorism said they are monitoring the case. They warned on X that violent radical leftism is increasing. Officials also said it should be treated as a public safety threat. The embassy’s previous comments on the killing triggered criticism from French officials.

This is the second time Kushner has failed to appear after being summoned. In August 2025, he was called to explain his concerns over rising anti-Semitic acts. At that time, he criticized French authorities for insufficient action. His repeated absence prompted the Foreign Affairs ministry to restrict his access to government members.

French sources emphasized that ambassadors must respect diplomatic norms and avoid influencing internal political debates. The ministry stated that Kushner’s behavior violated these expectations. French officials also said they expect US diplomats to follow formal summons and engage respectfully. The ban is meant to uphold France’s sovereignty and maintain proper diplomatic protocol.
