Gas supply shutdown in Karachi for two days

KARACHI – Authorities will suspend gas supply to industries and the CNG sector in Karachi for 48 hours. The move aims to manage rising gas demand during the winter season.
A spokesperson for Sui Southern Gas Company confirmed the suspension on Thursday. Gas supply will remain halted from 8am on Saturday, January 24, until 8am on Monday.
Officials said the decision was taken due to increased gas consumption in winter. Demand usually peaks during colder weather across the city.
During this period, gas supply will be completely cut to industries, captive power plants, and all CNG stations. The suspension will affect both production and transportation sectors.

According to Sui Southern, the step will help stabilize the gas distribution network. It will also ensure smoother supply management amid limited gas availability.
Meanwhile, domestic and commercial consumers will receive priority gas supply. However, they will face scheduled gas suspension from 10pm to 5am daily.
Sui Southern urged all affected sectors to cooperate during the temporary shutdown. Officials said gas supply will resume as scheduled after 48 hours.
