Poverty and domestic pressure cited in Lahore triple child murder case

Senior police officials have said that poverty and domestic pressure were the primary motives behind the shocking triple child murder in Lahore’s Ichhra area, where a mother allegedly killed her three young children.

According to investigators, the bodies of three siblings were discovered inside their home on Thursday, sparking widespread outrage and speculation. Early reports suggested multiple motives, including claims of an alleged online relationship and plans to remarry. However, police have dismissed these allegations, stating that no evidence of an extramarital affair was found during the investigation.

DSP Qamar Abbas from the Investigation Wing in Gulberg said the case took a critical turn when inconsistencies were observed in the parents’ statements. The couple had initially claimed they had locked the house and left for a short period, returning within 15 to 20 minutes.

Suspicion deepened when they reported that two of the children were found holding knives, a claim investigators described as highly unusual. This led police to shift their focus toward the family. Following detailed questioning, the suspect — the children’s mother — allegedly confessed to the crime.

Police officials said the case was solved within hours, making it one of the fastest-resolved murder investigations in Punjab.

During interrogation, financial hardship emerged as a key factor. The family of seven was living in a small rented house, with the father earning around Rs30,000 per month, which was insufficient to meet basic needs.

Investigators further revealed that domestic tensions, including pressure from the husband to seek financial help from her parents and reported verbal abuse, contributed to the situation. The accused woman also claimed she was facing severe emotional and domestic stress.

Authorities say further investigation is ongoing to fully establish all circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
