Israeli rescue teams searched for survivors after an Iranian missile struck a residential building in Haifa, killing at least two people and leaving others trapped under the rubble, authorities said on Monday.

The missile directly hit a seven-storey structure, causing severe damage and partial collapse, according to Israeli military and emergency services. Rescue workers combed through debris using flashlights, attempting to locate those still missing.

Israel Fire and Rescue Services confirmed that four individuals were initially reported missing. Later, two of them were found dead beneath the wreckage.

“This is a major destruction site,” said Elad Edri of the Home Front Command, describing the scale of the damage.

Israel on high alert amid fears of further Iranian missile strikes

The strike occurred shortly after the military detected a fresh wave of missiles launched from Iran. Officials confirmed the building was hit by a direct missile impact.

Emergency responders from Magen David Adom reported that at least four people were injured, including a 10-month-old baby who sustained a head injury. An 82-year-old man was also seriously wounded but later stabilised in hospital.

Images from the scene showed heavy smoke rising from the damaged building in a densely populated area, with rescue personnel working amid scattered debris and concrete blocks.

The attack is part of ongoing hostilities between Iran and Israel, with missile exchanges continuing since late February. The conflict escalated following joint military actions involving the United States.

Authorities remain on high alert as rescue efforts continue and further strikes are anticipated.
