KP CM Afridi approaches SC for Imran Khan’s personal doctor access

ISLAMABAD – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi arrived at the Supreme Court on Friday to seek assistance. He requested Chief Justice Yahya Afridi to arrange a meeting between jailed PTI founder Imran Khan and his personal physicians. Afridi told the media that the entire nation was concerned about Khan’s health. He emphasized that only his personal doctors should examine the former prime minister. The chief minister urged the apex court to ensure Khan receives proper medical care.
Afridi warned that if the Supreme Court did not help, the PTI would announce its next steps. He expressed frustration over what he called a lack of justice. Afridi said court proceedings continued, but concerns regarding Khan’s treatment were not addressed. He claimed that cases involving Khan and Bushra Bibi had not been scheduled for hearings for over a year. He asserted that if cases were listed promptly, the leaders could be released quickly.
Afridi stated that approaching the Supreme Court was the only option left. When asked about protests outside Adiala Jail, he said his presence should be seen as part of the effort. On Thursday, Afridi had rushed to Adiala Jail after reports of Khan’s hospital visit for a medical procedure. He planned to spend the night outside the jail with PTI leaders but left early around 3 a.m. This move was part of continuous efforts to secure access for Khan’s family and legal team.

Since taking office in October last year, Afridi has repeatedly sought permission to meet the former prime minister. He and Khan’s family members have been barred from visits in recent weeks. These restrictions have led to frequent sit-ins and protests near the jail. Police have sometimes used force to disperse demonstrators camped at Factory Naka. Afridi highlighted that all other avenues to meet Khan had been exhausted.
Earlier, the PTI raised concerns about Khan’s health condition. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that Khan underwent an eye-related medical procedure at PIMS Islamabad. Afridi said he had serious concerns about Khan’s health and safety in detention. He urged authorities to allow proper medical supervision without further delays. The situation remains tense, with PTI closely monitoring Khan’s condition and planning further action.
