Islamabad: A District and Sessions Court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, ordering authorities to arrest and present him before the court without delay.

The hearing was conducted by Senior Civil Judge Abbas Shah, who expressed displeasure over the chief minister’s repeated absence despite being summoned multiple times.

The case against Sohail Afridi was registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) under the PECA Act, alleging that he made misleading statements targeting state institutions, potentially damaging their credibility.

During the proceedings, the prosecution informed the court that despite several notices, the chief minister failed to appear. The court, noting his consistent absence, approved the issuance of a non-bailable arrest warrant.

The judge instructed law-enforcement officials to arrest Sohail Afridi and ensure his presence at the next hearing. Authorities were also directed to implement the warrant without delay.

The court then adjourned the case until January 17, emphasizing that the accused must be produced at the next hearing under all circumstances.

Legal experts note that in PECA-related cases, non-bailable warrants are considered a strict yet standard measure when an accused repeatedly avoids court appearances, making the arrest of the KP chief minister imminent.
