Lahore High Court Stops Arrests of Underage Drivers

Lahore: Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Justice Aalia Neelum, has expressed serious concern over the arrests of underage drivers and issued orders to stop taking minors into custody for traffic violations.

Justice Neelum emphasized that before taking any legal action, authorities should first run a public awareness campaign targeting children who ride motorcycles or drive cars illegally.

She directed that initial warnings be issued to minors, and only those who repeatedly violate traffic rules should face strict legal action.

Earlier today, the Chief Justice summoned IG Punjab to her chamber for a detailed discussion on the matter. The IG presented a report outlining the current situation regarding underage driving in the province.

This decision is seen as a significant step toward protecting minors and raising awareness among young drivers, ensuring that enforcement is balanced with education and preventive measures rather than immediate punitive action.
