Mahmood Achakzai Demands Security Briefing for Full Parliament

Islamabad- Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai responded to the prime minister’s invitation for a security briefing. He demanded that the session be held before the entire Parliament. He rejected the idea of briefing only selected members. Moreover, he said Parliament must be fully informed. He stressed the seriousness of the regional situation. He called for transparency and collective decision-making.
Speaking to the media, Achakzai said they were informed about the proposed briefing. However, he made their position clear. He said the government should address the full Parliament. He added that they were advised to raise this concern directly with the prime minister. Therefore, he said they would consult party colleagues first. He promised a final response after internal discussions.
Furthermore, Achakzai suggested holding a joint sitting of Parliament. Alternatively, he proposed conducting the session in the Senate. He emphasized that the country faces a dangerous regional environment. He said elected representatives must be taken into confidence. He underlined the importance of unity during challenging times. He urged the government to adopt an inclusive approach.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah formally invited opposition leaders to attend the in-camera briefing. The meeting will take place at the Prime Minister House. It is scheduled for 11:30am on Wednesday. A delegation led by Rana Sanaullah met Achakzai in Islamabad. The delegation also met Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas. They extended the invitation on behalf of the prime minister.

The opposition leaders requested time to consult their respective parties. They said they would share their decision after deliberations. Achakzai again proposed expanding the briefing to the full Parliament. He said the gravity of the situation demands broader consultation. He reiterated that Parliament should not be sidelined. He stressed responsible political engagement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened the meeting to brief political leaders on recent developments. These include the Middle East crisis. The crisis followed joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran. Additionally, the meeting will address Pakistan’s border security situation. The government aims to inform leaders about evolving regional challenges.
Rana Sanaullah urged political parties to rise above differences. He said national interest must come first. He emphasized that the meeting should not depend on conditions. He confirmed that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has also received an invitation. He expressed hope that all leaders will attend. He called for unity during critical times.
