Pakistan announces Iran US ceasefire talks

Pakistan on Wednesday announced that Iran and the United States, along with their allies, had agreed to an immediate ceasefire, while inviting delegations from both sides to Islamabad for further negotiations aimed at achieving lasting peace.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared the development in an early-morning statement, expressing gratitude to the leadership of both countries for demonstrating “remarkable wisdom and understanding” during the crisis. He said the ceasefire reflects constructive engagement and opens the door for sustainable peace in the region.

The prime minister invited both sides to participate in what he termed the “Islamabad Talks” on April 10, aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement to resolve outstanding disputes. He voiced optimism that continued diplomatic efforts would yield positive outcomes in the coming days.

Trump claims victory after Iran ceasefire deal

However, the United States has not officially confirmed full agreement to the ceasefire. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that while discussions are ongoing, no final decision has been announced by the White House.

Meanwhile, Israel has expressed support for the US decision to pause strikes on Iran but clarified that the ceasefire does not extend to Lebanon, indicating that tensions could persist on that front.

US President Donald Trump also said Washington would assist in managing traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route, as part of efforts to stabilise the situation.

The breakthrough followed intensive diplomatic engagement led by Pakistan, which has positioned itself as a key mediator in the conflict. Officials said the ceasefire would allow space for negotiations and reduce the risk of further escalation in the Middle East.
